光緒八年（1882年）置，治所在今阿克蘇市。直屬甘肅省。十年改屬新疆省。轄境相當今新疆維吾爾自治區阿克蘇、阿瓦提、阿拉爾、溫宿、拜城等市縣。二十八年（1902年）升為溫宿府。
