奧克尼

奧克尼（英語：Orkney、蘇格蘭蓋爾語：Arcaibh），是英國蘇格蘭東北部一群島，南距蘇格蘭本土僅10哩左右，是蘇格蘭32行政區之一。該群島由70個左右的島嶼組成，總面積990平方公里，其中20個左右島嶼有人居住，總人口19,590人（2005年）。最大的島被稱為梅恩蘭島（Mainland），面積523.25平方公里，首府柯克沃爾（Kirkwall）和第二大城鎮斯特羅姆內斯（Stromness）即位於主島上。有定期渡輪與蘇格蘭的瑟索（Thurso）相接駁。

早在8500年前的石器時代，這裏就有人居住。後來，皮克特人居住於奧克尼群島。875年，該群島被挪威佔領。1468年，丹麥和挪威國王基斯頓一世將女兒瑪嘉烈嫁給蘇格蘭國王占士三世，由於無法拿出嫁妝，1472年2月20日，蘇格蘭王國攻佔群島全境，自此該群島一直在蘇格蘭的疆土中。
