公車，漢朝時皇宮接待臣民的機構，臣民給皇帝的上書都由公車傳達至宮中。皇帝要徵召臣民，皆由公車配備馬車來回接送至皇宮，以示禮遇。公車的長官為公車司馬（又稱公車司馬令或公車令）[1]。
隋唐實施科舉制度後，公車成為赴京趕考舉人的代稱。
