可以說,肌酸在日常生活中最常見的用途就是健身運動員的訓練補充。一般職業或者半職業健身運動員都會服用定量的肌酸來幫助肌肉的生長和提高肌肉的質量。
肌酸可以在健身之前半小時或健身之後半小時內服用(理想),亦可在當天任一時刻服用。(每天都服用最為重要,而不是服用時刻)[來源請求]
肌酸的使用量是根據體重計算的。在不參與大負荷運動的正常日補充量為:男性服用量為0.7-1.2毫克/磅,女性服用0.5-1.0毫克/磅。[來源請求]
副作用
到目前為止還沒有發覺可靠的證據來證明額外服用肌酸有很強烈的副作用,因為它本身就是身體分泌的物質之一。如果在過量使用的情況下會造成輕度腹瀉。
2015年3月,一篇刊登於British Journal of Cancer (頁面存檔備份,存於互聯網檔案館)的研究發現男性使用含有肌酸的補給品或許會導致較高的睪丸癌發生概率。[2][3]
