生平
1942年出生在上海，原籍江蘇吳縣。1964年畢業於中國科學技術大學生物物理系。1964年任中國科學院生物物理研究所研究實習員，1979年任助理研究員，1985年任副研究員，1993年任研究員。
2005年至2008年任九三學社中央副主席，中國科學院生物物理研究所研究員。2008年任十一屆全國政協副主席，九三學社中央副主席，中國科學院生物物理研究所研究員。
2001年當選為中國科學院院士，2005年當選為發展中國家科學院院士。[1]
