《戰國策》記載張相國是梁國（魏國）人。因為有罪離開梁過去到趙國，在趙國擔任相國。張相國始終懷念梁國討厭趙國，一直想回梁國但沒有機會。後有人勸告他趙國的優勢和他在趙國的地位，他於是改變立場，成為趙人的長者和善者[1] 。
