努查努阿特人（英語：Nuu-chah-nulth /nuːˈtʃɑːnʊlθ/^[1]；努查努阿特語：Nuučaan̓ułʔatḥ [nuːt͡ʃaːnˀuɬʔatħ]），舊稱努特卡人（英語：Nootka^[2]），是分佈於加拿大的西北太平洋海岸印第安人族群，下屬十五個互相聯繫的部落，傳統上居住在溫哥華島的西岸。

在和歐洲人接觸之前，努查努阿特部落數量要更多一些，但歐洲人帶來的天花等瘟疫使得努查努阿特人的人口銳減。努查努阿特語屬於瓦卡什語系。

作為加拿大第一民族之一，努查努阿特人的管理機構是努查努阿特部落議會^[3]。

最早發現努查努阿特人的歐洲人是著名的詹姆斯·庫克船長。他於1778年在今日卑詩省發現了尤闊特的努查努阿特村民。努查努阿特村民對庫克船長說「來四處轉轉」（努查努阿特語：nuutkaa）^[4]，被他錯誤地當成族名，這就是努查努阿特人的舊稱「努特卡人」的由來；同時，庫克到達的該處峽灣也得名努特卡海峽。

努查努阿特人是加利福尼亞北方最早和歐洲人接觸的太平洋印第安族群，並且很快被納入歐洲人在北美洲西岸的毛皮貿易體系，稱為海上毛皮貿易。1790年前後，英國和西班牙為爭奪努特卡峽灣曾爆發了一次國際爭端，稱為努特卡危機（Nootka Crisis），最終以努特卡公約（Nootka Conventions）告終，西班牙作出讓步，放棄其對北美太平洋海岸地區的領土聲索。解決爭端的談判是在莫瓦奇阿特（Mowachaht）部落的酋長馬金納的主持下進行的。

1803年3月，馬金納率戰士佔領了美國商船波士頓號，他們殺死船長和大部分船員，只留下兩名船員作為奴隸，其中一人名叫約翰·傑威特（John R. Jewitt），他在努查努阿特人的村落中為奴三年，最終在敵對部落的酋長威卡寧尼什的幫助下成功出逃。傑威特專門撰寫了奴隸生涯的回憶錄，在回憶錄中他還記載了努查努阿特人的許多文化習俗^[5]。

1811年，美國商船湯金號在克拉約闊特峽灣遭到努查努阿特部落的襲擊，原因是這艘船的船長侮辱了當地的原住民，酋長特拉奧基阿特（Tla-o-qui-aht）率戰士將船長和幾乎全部船員全部殺害，並在翌日登船試圖打撈。不料一位倖存的船員點燃了船上的彈倉，導致爆炸，令許多努查努阿特人喪命。另有一位船員成功逃脫，被附近的基諾特部落接納，得以將事件公之於世。

從歐洲探險下最早接觸努查努阿特人開始，到19世紀30年代，至少90%的努查努阿特人因為歐洲人帶來的傳染性瘟疫而死亡，主要是瘧疾和天花。這也導致努查努阿特人傳統的社會和文化秩序發生崩塌。到20世紀初，努查努阿特人的人口僅剩下約3,500人^[6]。

1978年，溫哥華島西部的部落正式將努查努阿特定為族名，意為「沿着山與海」^[4]。

捕鯨

努查努阿特人是太平洋海岸印第安人中為數不多的捕鯨民族。捕鯨活動是努查努阿特文化的重要組成部分，體現在民間故事、歌曲、人名、家系和地名之中。

碳同位素測定結果顯示，努查努阿特人的先民在四千多年前就開始通過捕鯨獲取肉類和油脂^[7]。由於其居住地域廣闊以及鯨魚的遷徙活動，努查努阿特人獵捕的鯨類種群多樣，主要是灰鯨和座頭鯨，這兩種鯨類性格更溫順，且活動範圍距海岸更近^[8]。

有證據表明，努查努阿特人會不顧風險試圖獵捕虎鯨，以展現自身英勇。努查努阿特人認為虎鯨的鯨肉和油脂較其他體型更大的鯨類具有更高的品質^[9]。

捕鯨活動也在努查努阿特社會中間有重要地位。努查努阿特酋長會組織族群內有影響力的成員開辦獵鯨大會。努查努阿特各個部落的捕鯨習俗也有不同，各自有獨特的傳統和禮儀。捕鯨活動的傳統習俗，簡單舉例如儀式性的沐浴、節慾、禱告，以及出獵前後的儀式。這些習俗在酋長夫婦的帶領和主持下進行；儀式得到相當的重視，因為努查努阿特人認為這將決定捕獵的結果^[10]。捕鯨活動不僅參與者需要有較高地位，捕鯨成果的分配方式也和社會地位密切相關^[9]。

現代努查努阿特人最著名的工藝品皆出自尤闊特捕鯨人廟，主要用於捕鯨活動開始前的精神準備儀式。廟內有大量描繪宗教人物的雕塑，以及捕鯨先民的白骨等。

飲食

除了鯨類，努查努阿特人居住的地區亦有豐富的食物來源。努查努阿特漁民捕食的魚類包括大比目魚、鯡魚、岩魚、鮭魚等；蛤蜊、海膽、無孔貽貝等海洋生物也是努查努阿特人的主要食物^[9]^[11]。魚類可以在大型木製容器中用水和熱石塊烹製，或者曬乾後在冬天食用^[12]。努查努阿特人也食用夸馬克美蓮的根部^[13]，蕨類的根莖，以及如藍莓和蔓越橘等多種漿果^[14]。有些努查努阿特人為獲得穩定的食物來源，會種植夸馬克美蓮和蘋果樹^[15]。

獲取這些陸上和海洋食物來源的方式，是通過一代代人口耳相傳、言傳身授的^[16]。近年來，為了保護努查努阿特人的傳統飲食習俗，努查努阿特部落議會組織編寫了努查努阿特人的傳統食譜，共90頁，包含一些烹飪貼士、文化習俗介紹和歷史故事等。

柏樹文化

努查努阿特人利用當地的紅柏和黃柏的樹皮和木材製作各種材料，如以木材製作圖騰柱、獨木舟，以樹皮編織成籃子、衣物和宗教用品^[17]^[18]。

社會階級

努查努阿特人居住的土地資源豐富，因此擁有精密複雜的社會結構和明顯的階級劃分。階級包括平民和統治土地的酋長，平民階層的成員擁有自治權，但他們需要酋長的同意才能在社區領地內捕魚，狩獵和覓食^[10]。酋長還負責財產的分配，這是努查努阿特社會的關鍵要素。酋長的才幹以他供養整個族群的能力來衡量。通過控制自然資源的消耗和開發，酋長能夠保持社會階級結構的穩定，確保當地資源時刻充足，滿足族人的生存需求^[16]。

散財宴

努查努阿特人和其他太平洋海岸族群一樣，也舉行類似於散財宴（potlatch）的儀式。英語中的「散財宴」（potlatch）一詞即來自於努查努阿特語。舉辦散財宴的主人將為參加者準備豐厚的大禮，其目的是多種多樣的：重新分配財產、維持社會地位、鞏固同盟關係、慶祝結婚以及紀念重要事件等^[19]^[20]。
