生平
早年參加中國人民解放軍。1965年1月，任133師政治部宣傳科幹事；1965年9月，任46軍政治部宣傳處幹事；1975年2月，任46軍138師政治部宣傳科科長；1975年6月，任138師414團副政治委員、政治委員；1978年9月，任138師炮兵團政治委員。1981年1月，任136師政治部主任[1]。1981年10月，任46軍政治部副主任。1983年5月，任46軍政治部主任；1985年8月，任濟南軍區政治部副主任。1994年10月，任濟南軍區政治部主任；1996年晉升中將軍銜[2]。1996年1月，任總政治部主任助理；1996年11月至2004年6月，任總政治部副主任。2000年晉升上將軍銜[3][4]。
中共第十五屆、十六屆中央候補委員。
