偕二甲基效應，又稱Thorpe-Ingold 效應。 當一個亞甲基上的氫被兩個甲基取代後就形成了一個偕二甲基碳。兩個甲基相互推搡的結果是增大了兩者之間的鍵角，同時縮小了構成碳四面體的另一對鍵的鍵角，於是相連基團之間就被推得近了一點。這個微小的鍵角變化顯着地影響了成環反應的熵變，使得有偕二甲基的分子鏈易於成環。
