艾米·格斯特勒生於1956年。1978年畢業於培澤學院（Pitzer College），2000年在貝林頓學院（Bennington College）獲藝術碩士學位。其詩集包括Bitter Angel（1990年，獲1991年National Book Critics Circle Award)、Medicine（2000年，入圍Phi Beta Kappa Poetry Award）、Ghost Girl（2004年）和Dearest Creature（2009年）等。《洛杉磯時報》稱之為「我國最好的詩人之一」。2010年任The Best American Poetry客座編輯。
