歷史
這個企鵝圖案在最佳Linux圖標競賽中被選中。其他一些圖案可以在Linux圖標大賽網站（頁面存檔備份，存於網際網路檔案館）中找到。Tux的設計者是Larry Ewing，他於1996年，利用GIMP軟件設計出了這個企鵝，並在以下條例下發布：
- Permission to use and/or modify this image is granted provided you acknowledge me lewing@isc.tamu.edu and The GIMP if someone asks.
Tux已經成為Linux和開源社群的象徵。英國Linux用戶組（British LUG）甚至在當地的動物園認養了幾隻企鵝。
