類函數

定義

在數學中，一個類函數是一個群${\displaystyle G}$上的函數${\displaystyle f}$，使得${\displaystyle f}$在${\displaystyle G}$的共軛類上取常數值。換言之，${\displaystyle f}$在共軛映射下不變。這些函數在群表示理論中佔有基礎地位。

性質

一個線性表示的特徵標是類函數；可以證明：若${\displaystyle G}$為有限群，${\displaystyle F}$是一個域，且${\displaystyle \mathrm {char} (F)}$不整除${\displaystyle G}$，則${\displaystyle G}$上取值在${\displaystyle F}$裡的類函數係由特徵標展成，此時類函數構成群代數${\displaystyle F[G]}$的中心。
