1993年到1996年她是一名報道南斯拉夫戰爭 的記者。1998年到2002年她在哈佛大學 肯尼迪政府學院 擔任人權政策研究員。2008年3月以前是參議員奧巴馬 的高級顧問，後來成為奧巴馬總統競選團隊的一員。
