歷史
前身是1843年成立的倫敦民族學學會（Ethnological Society of London）。1871年，它和1863年成立的倫敦人類學學會（Anthropological Society of London）合併，形成大不列顛和愛爾蘭人類學學會（Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland），1907年冠以「皇家」頭銜。
獎項
赫胥黎紀念獎章（Huxley Memorial Medal）和講座於1900年設立，以紀念托馬斯·亨利·赫胥黎，是該學會的最高獎。[1][2]
里弗斯紀念獎章（Rivers Memorial Medal）由學會於1923年設立，以紀念會長威廉·哈爾斯·里弗斯 ( William Halse Rivers）。[3]
