曾任洛杉磯市議會代表第13區的議員，並在2006年至2012年間擔任議會主席。於2013年7月1日就任洛杉磯市長。
家庭
其父親為前洛杉磯縣地區檢察官Gil Garcetti，有墨西哥，意大利血統，母親Sukey Roth為俄羅斯及猶太血統。
