鼓國是白狄所建立，一說為祁姓。前527年，晉國荀吳率領軍隊伐鮮虞，圍攻鼓國，荀吳攻下鼓國回國，不殺一個人，將鼓子鳶鞮帶回國[1]。晉國占取鼓地，在宗廟裡獻祭後，就讓鼓子回國。鼓子回去後，又叛晉歸屬鮮虞。前520年六月，荀吳巡視東陽，派軍隊偽裝糴米的人，背着皮甲在昔陽門外休息，乘機侵襲滅亡了鼓國，帶着鼓子鳶鞮回去，派涉佗鎮守鼓地[2]，戰國時期鼓國為下曲陽邑。
