乾隆年間，官甘肅知縣，終官江蘇松太兵備道。多才多藝，精於風水，「每為親戚交友擇地，貧者助之財以葬」[1]。章攀桂曾為于敏中金壇里第營造花園。于敏中收受賄賂事發後，攀桂受到牽連，被革職。晚年居江寧，著有《選擇正宗》。
