北周置澮州，治所在固始縣（今河南省固始縣東北七十里）。轄境相當今河南固始縣、商城縣、淮濱縣一帶地。下轄新蔡郡（下轄固始縣）、邊城郡（下轄期思縣）、光化郡。隋文帝開皇三年（583年）廢澮州和諸郡，固始縣、期思縣改屬光州。
