製備

氟化鑥可由氧化鑥和氟化氫反應，或者氯化鑥和氫氟酸反應得到：^[3]

Lu₂O₃ + 6 HF → 2 LuF₃ + 3 H₂O

LuCl₃ + 3 HF → LuF₃ + 3 HCl

氟化鑥可由硫化鑥和氫氟酸反應，再將沉澱灼燒得到：^[4]

3 Lu₂S₃ + 20 HF + (2+2x)H₂O → 2 (H₃O)Lu₃F₁₀·xH₂O↓ + 9 H₂S↑（x=0.9）

(H₃O)Lu₃F₁₀ → 3 LuF₃ + HF↑ + H₂O↑

氧化鑥和三氟化氮的反應在240°C發生，生成中間產物LuOF，第二步在低於460°C時便發生，生成LuF₃。^[5]
