左旋(levorotation)與右旋(dextrorotation)是指有機化合物的對映異構體對偏振光中分別使光向逆時針或順時針方向旋轉。會令偏振光左旋或右旋的異構體會被稱為左旋體和右旋體。在有機化學中，通常用(+)-表示右旋，(-)-表示左旋。如D（右旋）構型的左旋酒石酸，其全名可寫作D-(-)-酒石酸（左旋體）。其中D為右旋形態，L為左旋形態。在D構型中具有左旋性的寫做D-(-)-，反之寫做D-(+)-，而在L構型中具有右旋性的做作L-(-)-，反之寫做L-(+)-。
