陆龟是龟鳖目（Testudines）的陆生爬行动物，是种独居动物。像它们的远亲乌龟一样，陆龟以龟壳保护自身，免受猎食者袭击。龟壳的顶部为龟甲，底部为龟板。陆龟同时拥有内骨骼与外骨骼，其体形由数公分至两公尺不等。陆龟是昼行动物，通常在黄昏时分活动。
