袋剑虎（学名：Thylacosmilus atrox）是拥有剑齿的肉食有袋类，生存于晚中新世至上新世，属袋犬目袋剑虎科，是袋剑虎属的唯一已知物种。它们的遗骸在南美洲发现，主要都是在阿根廷卡塔马卡省、恩特雷里奥斯省与拉潘帕省^[1]。它并非斯剑虎的近亲，只是因趋同演化的关系而有类似的外形。

袋剑虎具有一对如军刀的上犬齿，在一生中会不停生长，牙根的位置位于眼窝上方^[2]。剑齿的特化进而影响了袋剑虎门齿的退化，不过其他剑齿虎如斯剑虎与巴博剑齿虎依然保有完整的门牙齿式^[3]。它的下颚亦有一对突出的边，平时可以保护其剑齿。

虽然袋剑虎身体部份的化石并不完整，但足以发现许多与其他剑齿虎类似或相同的特征。袋剑虎的颈椎十分粗壮，类似剑齿虎亚科^[4]。前肢肱骨与股骨十分粗壮，肱骨有发达的胸肌与三角肌附著，可用来捕捉猎物并吸收猎物造成的碰撞。^[5] 后脚肱骨也很粗壮，短胫骨与跖行足显示袋剑虎并不擅长奔跑，可能采伏击策略。和巴博剑齿虎科与猎猫科不一样的是，袋剑虎的爪子并无法收缩^[5]。

一些较早的文献会写道：袋剑虎的灭绝是在南北美洲生物大迁徙赢不过更为强势的斯剑虎而绝种。然而更新的研究显示，袋剑虎大约于上新世（3.6–2.58 百万年前）就已灭绝，而斯剑虎最早则是在中更新世（781,000-126,000 年前）才抵达南美洲^[6]。因此两种袋剑虎与斯剑虎的消长之间其实存在 150 万年的空窗期。
