永宁县，元代至顺年间，分永新州置，属江西等处行中书省吉安路[1]。至正二十二年（龙凤八年壬寅），朱元璋将吉安路改为江西吉安府[2]。清代仍属江西吉安府[3]，民国三年（1914年），改名宁冈县。
