举人出身的孙寿铭于1876年（光绪2年）以台防同知奉旨接替张梦元，于台湾地区担任台湾府知府。而此官职是台湾清治时期此期间，受台湾道制约的台湾地方父母官。光绪四年，接替方熊祥任兴化府知府一职，光绪七年由沈定钧接任。
