败臼增一 （南鱼座β）在星表上是南天星座，南鱼座内的一对联星^[5][6]。它的视星等为肉眼可见的4.29等^[2]。依据从地球观察得到的年周视差22.84mas^[1]，这颗恒星与太阳的距离是143光年。它的座标位置是X射线的发射源，亮度为7021884999999999999♠88.5×10²⁰ W，但这应该不是来自这颗A-型恒星^[11]，可能还有其它发射源。

Oblak（1978年）曾将其视为一颗三合星^[3]，但随后就将其列为联星^[5][6]。它的星等为4.29^[3]，主星A，是一颗白色的A型主序星，类型为 A1V^[4]。估计质量是2.3太阳质量^[8]，半径是2.1太阳半径^[9]。有效温度是9,638K^[9]，来自光球层的发光强度是太阳亮度的37倍^[8]。红外过量的证据显示它有岩屑盘，估计其轨道距离主星12AU，温度为188K^[9]。伴星B的星等为7.8，恒星分类为A2V，与主星距离30.3角秒^[5][6]。

败臼增一相对于太阳以每秒14.4公里的速度在银河系中移动。它投射的银河轨道让它在距离银河中心23,900至28,300光年的轨道上运动^[12]。^{[来源可靠？]}

在中国，它与败臼一（天鹤座γ）、败臼二、败臼三和败臼四（英语：19 Piscis Austrini）组成星官败臼^[13][14]。
