死海断层是中东贯穿约旦河的左移转形断层，断层从西奈半岛南面的红海裂谷开始，沿著阿拉伯板块和非洲板块之间的板块边缘伸延，终点是土耳其东南部与东安那托利亚断层交会的地方。由于两个板块均朝东北偏北方向移动，而东面的阿拉伯板块移动速度较快，因此测出断层向左移位约107公里。
