康乃狄克西保留地

康乃狄克西保留地（英语：Connecticut Western Reserve）是美国康乃狄克州历史上对西北领地声称拥有的土地，位于今日俄亥俄州的东北部。

历史

康乃狄克州虽然因为扬基-宾夕法尼亚战争以及美国联邦政府的介入下，失去了她对自大西洋和太平洋之间声称拥有的土地在宾夕法尼亚州（威斯特摩兰县）的一段，但仍然认为其拥有在宾州以西，介乎北纬41度和北纬42度2分之间的土地。在今日的俄亥俄州，该段土地长约190公里（120英里），介乎伊利湖与杨斯敦、阿克伦、新伦敦和威拉德之间以南，亦即今日美国国道224以南3英里处。俄亥俄州以西的土地即今天的密西根州、印地安纳州、伊利诺伊州、爱阿华州、内布拉斯加州、犹他州、内华达州和加利福尼亚州。

在1786年9月13日签订的地契中（康乃狄克州为偿还在美国独立战争中欠下的债项，把声称领有的土地让予联邦政府），康州得以保留 12,000平方公里（300万英亩）在俄亥俄的土地。1796年把俄亥俄的土地售予康乃狄克土地公司（Connecticut Land Company），但当地印地安人仍然拥有该片土地的所有权，直到后来在1795年按格林维尔条约和1805按因达斯特里堡条约（Treaty of Fort Industry）予以解决。该片土地的西端面积2,000平方公里（50万英亩）的土地被称为火地（Firelands，或受灾者补偿地 Sufferers Lands）以补偿在美国独立战争期间家园被英国军队放火摧毁的康州部分城镇的居民。土地公司对剩下的土地进行测量，并把每个镇的面积定为25 平方英里见方。这与俄亥俄州其他地区的城镇不同（面积36平方英里见方）。

1796年公司派出以摩西·克里夫兰（Moses Cleaveland）为首的测量队伍前往西保留地为测量工作作准备。他们建立了后来成为当地最大城市的克里夫兰。往后数年，殖民者慢慢到那里定居，并在建立了扬斯敦（1796年）、沃伦（1798年）和阿士塔布拉（Ashtabula，1799年）。

1800年，西北领地设杜伦巴尔县（Trumbull County）。由于沃伦被定为县治，该市自称为“西保留地历史之都”。后来数个新的县被析出。

建筑

西保留地的建筑风格由于居民的来源地，因而受到新英格兰地区城镇的影响。主要的建筑样式有乔治王式、联邦式和希腊复兴式。诸如奥罗拉、堪菲尔德（Canfield）、哈德逊、米兰、诺沃克（Norwalk）和佩恩斯维尔（Painesville）等市镇采用了这些样式的混合，再加上新英格兰传统的城市规划。

文化

早期的殖民者把这片土地称为“新康乃狄克”，但后来改称“西保留地”。1967年在哈德逊的西保留学院（Western Reserve College，又译西储学院，创于1826年）和凯斯理工学院（Case Institute of Technology，创于1880年）合并为凯斯西储大学（Case Western Reserve University）即为对这段历史纪念的一例（哈德逊校区后来改称西保留学会 Western Reserve Academy，为新大学的预备学校）。西保留地历史学会（Western Reserve Historical Society）即致力保存与当地相关的历史及文物。
