LOL

LOL（也写作lol）是常见的网络语言用语，在沟通工具中广泛使用。“LOL”是首字母缩略字，指Laugh Out Loud^[1]^[2],Laugh Over Loud,或Laugh Out Loudly^[3]，意即大声地笑。“LOL”是众多以文字代表笑的缩略语之一。另外，LOL也有其他与笑无关的含意，但较为少用，如“lots of luck”（满满的幸运）或“lots of love”（满满的爱）^[4]。

这些缩略字与日俱增^[5]，并与表情符号一起被网友收集，在Usenet、IRC和其他电脑辅助沟通工具的用户间流传，^[6]。不过，使用这些缩略字引起争议，部分人赞同使用，也有人认为应避免在特定场合如商业沟通中使用。

虽然LOL是英语缩略字，但英语并非母语的人也直接使用，更以其他文字拼写，如希伯来字母：לול、西里尔字母：лол、亚美尼亚字母：լոլ。

其他地方的使用

大部分的变化形是小写字母。

lal或lawl：可视作标示LOL发音的变化形，或者德语的变化形。
草、www、笑：日文版的lol，笑的日语读音是wara，他们会省略后面的ara，只取其首字母w，又因多个w组成很像大草原，亦引申成“草”(音kusa)。
lolz：有时与LOL替换使用。
lulz：LOL的变形，常用作名词，如“for the lul”（指“for laughs”）^[7]^[8]，尤其指幸灾乐祸的笑，常见于地下骇客网站的匿名留言。
mdr：对于法语使用者，相当于LOL，由“mort de rire”而来，意即“笑死”。
חחחחח：希伯来语版本的LOL，字母ח发音为kh，串起来就成“khkhkhkhkh”，俨如嗤嗤地笑。
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ：韩语版本的LOL，ㅋ发音为k，串起来就成“kkkkk”，亦如嗤嗤地笑。
555：泰语版本，因为泰语中“5”的发音如“ha”，笑声般。
asg：瑞典语版本，“Asgarv”的缩略，意即大笑。
XD：网络语言，表示“张嘴大笑”的脸部表情。
ㄎㄎ：注音文网络语言，音同“科科”，表示无言的笑。
ㄏㄏ：注音文网络语言，音同“呵呵”，表示冷冷的笑。
233：以中国大陆常见，来源于猫扑社区233号表情“锤地大笑”。
xswl：中国大陆常用，为“笑死我了”拼音首字母缩写
ROFL：代表“roll(ing) on the floor laughing my ass off”，即笑到在地上翻滚。
siu4：香港用语，解作笑死，取自笑的粤语拼音或罗马拼音siu，及死的粤语谐音4。

D=笑（全世界广用）^[9](Roblox十分流行）
