郭文灿个性力行孝悌，万历四十六年（1618年）举戊午科河南乡试，崇祯元年（1628年）成进士[2]，获授大同知县，饥荒时人民欠饷，他就卖掉田里千亩代偿；不久改任户部主事，有才能名声，调官刑部浙江司主事，因病辞官回乡，不再出仕，在别业居住，与农圃相处，死后入祀乡贤祠[1]。
