月锉鳞鲀为辐鳍鱼纲鲀形目鳞鲀亚目鳞鲀科的其中一种，为热带海水鱼，由John E. Randall和Roger C. Steene于1983年首次描述，分布于太平洋区，从澳洲至皮特凯恩群岛海域，本鱼体呈长椭圆形，吻端位且长，尾柄上有一条镶蓝边宽阔的黑色条，尾柄前面有一条镶蓝边黑色的弯曲线，该物种因此得名“lunula”，拉丁语中的意思是“新月”，橙黄色带从上唇基部开始，穿过头部延伸至胸基部，腹部有黑色斑块，从头顶至胸鳍基部有2条色黑横纹及1条淡蓝色横带，最大体深为标准长度的2.2%至2.6%，尾鳍有新月状的黄色块边缘为褐色，体长可达28公分，栖息在礁石区，生活习性不明。
