新加坡是全球人口密集度领先的地区之一，也因此成为拥有大量摩天大楼的国家，总计约4,300座高层建筑物，多数在中心商业区（Downtown Core）。[1][2]总计有99座摩天大楼高度超过140米（459英尺）。

历史上新加坡最早的摩天大楼是国泰大厦，该大楼于1939年建成，共17层。[3]这栋70米（230英尺）高的建筑物在当时是东南亚最高之摩天大楼，直到1954年才被87米（285英尺）高的前亚洲保险大厦（英语：Asia Insurance Building）超越。不过前亚洲保险大厦仅维持4年新加坡最高摩天大楼的头衔，1958年后又被100米（328英尺）高的邵氏楼（英语：Shaw House and Centre）超越。[4][5]1970至1980年代期间，新加坡开始进入工业化时代，摩天大楼建造风潮也开始暴增，高280米（919英尺）的华联银行大厦便在1986年时建成，并在当时成为北美地区以外最高的摩天大楼，直到香港中银大厦于1989年建成为止才被超越。[6]新加坡的摩天大楼建设热潮在1990至2000年仍持续著，这段期间内至少140米（459英尺）高的大厦已增加至30幢，在这当中有许多是住宅大厦，而新加坡第一次高楼建筑热潮最后涵盖至2008年期间。

自21世纪以来，新加坡市区内正在建设中的摩天大楼数量再度急剧增加，特别是在滨海湾区。在滨海湾区的滨海中心计划是当地大型建设计划之一，整个计划中最先完工的是占地280,000平方米（3,000,000平方英尺），共包含3座办公大楼的甲级写字楼滨海湾金融中心、2栋住宅大厦开发项目、649间豪华公寓、以及占地16,400-平方米（176,000-平方英尺）的滨海湾连锁购物中心。[7]另外在乌节路上也有数个购物中心开发项目，包括爱雍．乌节与卓锦豪庭等大型开发计划，卓锦豪庭高218米（715英尺），共52层楼，大楼下方的裙楼即爱雍．乌节大型商场，并与地下的乌节地铁站相连接。[8]另外在莱佛士坊，建筑高度245米（804英尺）的海洋金融中心改建案于2011年完工，该大厦共43层楼高。[9]目前新加坡最高建筑物为国浩大厦，其高度为290米（950英尺），在2016年完工后成为新加坡最高的摩天大楼。[10]由于新加坡中心商务区邻近巴耶利峇空军基地，因此新加坡规定中心商务区建筑物高度限制在280米（919英尺）[6][11]，但是位于商务区外的丹戎巴葛不在建筑限制范围区内，因此国浩大厦的建筑高度已经超越280米（919英尺）。
