左旋(levorotation)与右旋(dextrorotation)是指有机化合物的对映异构体对偏振光中分别使光向逆时针或顺时针方向旋转。会令偏振光左旋或右旋的异构体会被称为左旋体和右旋体。在有机化学中，通常用(+)-表示右旋，(-)-表示左旋。如D（右旋）构型的左旋酒石酸，其全名可写作D-(-)-酒石酸（左旋体）。其中D为右旋形态，L为左旋形态。在D构型中具有左旋性的写做D-(-)-，反之写做D-(+)-，而在L构型中具有右旋性的做作L-(-)-，反之写做L-(+)-。
