约翰·弗雷德里克·哈尔顿(英语:John Frederick Haldon;1948年10月23日-)是英国的一位历史学者,专攻拜占庭帝国历史,现为普林斯顿大学30届谢尔比·库洛姆·戴维斯欧洲历史(荣休)教授(Shelby Cullom Davis '30 Professor of European History)与拜占庭历史与希腊研究荣休教授,2021年当选英国国家学术院院士,2016-2022年任国际拜占庭学研究会会长。

约翰·哈尔顿1948年10月23日生于英格兰泰恩河畔纽卡斯尔,1970年在伯明翰大学获得文学学士学位,论文题目为“莫里斯至巴西尔二世时代拜占庭军队的武器、盔甲与战术组织(Arms, armour and tactical organisation of the Byzantine army from Maurice to Basil II)”[1]。随后他前往路德维希·马克西米连慕尼黑大学攻读硕士学位,之后回到伯明翰大学,1975年获博士学位,论文题目是拜占庭军事管理的各方面:6至9世纪的精英军团:Opsikion和帝国Tagmata(Aspects of Byzantine military administration: the Elite Corps, the Opsikion, and the Imperial Tagmata from the sixth to the ninth century)[2],论文指导者是安东尼·布莱尔[3]。他还曾在雅典大学学习现代希腊语。[4]
