毅州，本汉下洛县。元魏改文德县。唐升武州，唐僖宗改毅州 。后唐太祖李克用复武州，后唐明宗圣德和武钦孝皇帝李亶长兴元年夏四月庚申（930年5月27日），又改新州管内武州为毅州。其辖地在今河北宣化一带地方[1]。潞王李从珂仍为武州。后晋高祖石敬瑭割献于辽，改归化州[2]。
