't Zyn kleene toet middelgrowte veugels (11-22 cm) en ze joagn ip insect'n binst de vlucht. Z' hèn lange vlerk'n en vele sowrt'n hèn e gevorkte steirt.
De veugels zyn weireldwyd te vynd'n, uytgezoenderd in de poolgebied'n. In Europa leevn vuyf sowrt'n: Hirundo rustica, Riparia riparia, Delichon urbicum, Ptyonoprogne rupestris en Cecropis daurica.
