15. Akademi Ödülleri Los Angeles'taki The Ambassador Hotel'deki Cocoanut Grove'da 1942 filmlerine verildi. En İyi Film ödülü Bayan Miniver filmine verildi. Tören, filmin Oscar ödüllü oyuncusu Greer Garson'ın konuşmasıyla ünlüdür. Çünkü Garson'ın En İyi Kadın Oyuncu olarak kabul konuşması yaklaşık 6 dakika sürdü ve genellikle bir Akademi Ödülleri törenindeki en uzun kabul konuşması olarak kabul edilir.^[1]

Bayan Miniver (1936'daki My Man Godfrey'den sonra) dört oyunculuk kategorisinin tamamında adaylık alan ikinci film ve beş oyunculuk adaylığı kazanan ilk film oldu.

Törende ayrıca dikkat çeken kısmı Irving Berlin’in , "White Christmas " şarkısı ile kendisinin kazandığı En İyi Şarkı Akademi Ödülü'nü sunmasıdır.

En İyi Belgesel kategorisi için yapılan oylama, bu yıldan daha önce veya daha sonra hiç olmayan bir şekilde dört adayın kazandığı bir beraberlikle sonuçlandı.
