జలసంధి

జలసంధి (ఆంగ్లం Strait) రెండు పెద్ద సముద్రాల్ని కలిపి, పెద్ద ఓడలు ప్రయాణించగలిగే, ప్రకృతిసిద్ధమైన సన్నని నీటి మార్గము. ఇది రెండు భూభాగాలను వేరుచేస్తుంది. జలసంధులు వాణిజ్యపరంగా చాలా ప్రాముఖ్యాన్ని సంతరించుకున్నాయి. ఇవి ముఖ్యమైన నావికా మార్గాలు. వీని నియంత్రణ గురించి పెద్ద యుద్ధాలు జరిగాయి. సముద్రాల్ని కలుపుతూ చాలా కృత్రిమమైన కాలువలు కూడా త్రవ్వబడ్డాయి.

ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ప్రసిద్ధిచెందిన జలసంధులలో ముఖ్యమైనవి:

పాక్ జలసంధి - భారతదేశంలోని తమిళనాడు రాష్ట్రానికి, శ్రీలంక మధ్యలోని ప్రకృతి సిద్ధమైన జలసంధి. ఇక్కడే రామసేతు ఉన్నది.
డోవర్ జలసంధి - ఇంగ్లండు, ఫ్రాన్స్ మధ్యలో ఉత్తర సముద్రమును ఇంగ్లీషు కాలువతో కలుపుతుంది.
జిబ్రాల్టర్ జలసంధి - అట్లాంటిక్ మహాసముద్రము, మధ్యధరా సముద్రముల మధ్యనున్న ఏకైక ప్రకృతి సిద్ధమైన మార్గము.

బేరింగ్ జలసంధి - అలస్కా, సైబీరియా మధ్య పసిఫిక్ మహాసముద్రం, ఆర్కిటిక్ మహాసముద్రాలను కలుపుతున్నది.
హార్ముజ్ జలసంధి - పర్షియన్ సింధుశాఖకు, ఒమన్ సింధుశాఖకూ మధ్య ఉన్న జలసంధి.
మలక్కా జలసంధి, మలేషియా, సుమత్రా దీవుల మధ్య హిందూ మహాసముద్రాన్ని, దక్షిణ చైనా సముద్రాన్నీ కలుపుతుంది.
