Napokon pred prenasledovaním v Uhorsku utiekli zo Slovenska do Sedmohradska, odtiaľ do južného Ruska a do severnej Ameriky, kde žijú dodnes.
Napríklad obce Veľké Leváre[2], Brodské[3], Dubnica nad Váhom[chýba zdroj] a Častkovce, kde sa doteraz zachovala prezývka občanov Častkoviec a to habáni.
Moravu museli všetci definitívne opustiť v roku 1622, sčasti utiekli na Slovensko. Koncom 17. storočia sa im rozpadol systém spoločného hospodárenia. Od 18. storočia odchádzali zo západného Slovenska cez stredné Slovensko a Gemer do Sedmohradska a južného Ruska. Časti boli dovolené zostať na Slovensku s určitými právami, no museli prestúpiť na katolicizmus.
Žili v oddelených sebestačných osadách (komúnach, tzv. haushabenoch – odtiaľ názov habáni) s vlastnou cirkevnou, politickou a hospodárskou samosprávou.
