province of Japan From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rikuchū Province (陸中国, Rikuchū no kuni) was an old province in the area of Iwate and Akita prefectures on the island of Honshū.[1] Along with Rikuzen Province and Mutsu Province, it was sometimes called Rikushū (陸州). The history of the province started in 1868 and ended in 1872.
In the Meiji period, the provinces of Japan were converted into prefectures. Maps of Japan and Rikuchū Province were reformed in the 1870s.[2]
