In Hinduism and Hindu mythology, Parvati is considered a mother goddess. her name Parvati translates "daughter of the mountain". she is said to live on Mount Kailash. She is the mother of the deities Ganesha and Kartikeya. She is widely considered to be the consort of lord Shiva, one of the main deities in the Hindu pantheon.

Parvati is generally depicted with 2 or arms carrying weapons such as Trishula, a Lotus, a Shankha, and her one hand is in Abhaymudra. She is one of the Three main goddesses in Hinduism along with the goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati.
Parvati's conveyance (vahana) is a lion or tiger. Parvati is the younger sister of the goddess Ganga.
In Hindu scriptures, Parvati is an important goddess. She is called by many other names. Some of them are:
- Ambika, meaning the divine mother.
- Gauri, meaning the fair skinned one
- Shyama, meaning the dark skinned one.
- Kali, meaning the black one or the goddess of kala (time), past, present and future and death.
- Bhairavi, meaning the consort of Bhairava.
- Durga, meaning inaccessible or undefeatable.
- Bhavatarini, meaning savior of the world.
