Area code 440 is a telephone area code in the state of Ohio, United States. It was created on August 16, 1997, when it was split from area code 216. It covers the northeastern part of Ohio, including many suburbs of Cleveland and other nearby towns. Some of the major cities and towns in this area code include Mentor, Elyria, Lakewood, Lorain, and Ashtabula.
