Area code 229 is a telephone area code in the state of Georgia in the United States. It covers a large portion of southwestern Georgia, including cities such as Albany, Valdosta, and Thomasville. It was created on October 1, 2000 as a split from 912, which originally covered a larger region in southeastern Georgia.
