Vrije Universiteit Brussel

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (English: Free University of Brussels; abbreviated VUB) is a Dutch-speaking university in Brussels, Belgium. The university was founded in 1970 as a split from the Free University of Brussels, which was founded in 1834 by the lawyer and liberal politician Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen. It has about 19,000 students. The motto of the university is Scientia vincere tenebras, which in Latin means "conquering darkness by science".
