The Université libre de Bruxelles (English: Free University of Brussels; abbreviated ULB) is a French-speaking university in Brussels, Belgium. The university was founded in 1970 as a split from the Free University of Brussels, which was founded in 1834 by the lawyer and liberal politician Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen. It has about 30,000 students.
