I would like to cite a source, but am not sure: It should be:

A fact from New York City appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know? column on 30 January 2009.

Three questions, three answers

Ref tag useage

Reference tags need to be placed around the actual reference itself. Looking at the case here, the <ref> tag needed to be added before the {{cite book}} tag and the </ref> after it. The entire reference should be placed at the point in the article that it applies to. Basically this is where the <ref name=neuiw> tag was placed but it also needed to include the rest of the reference there. The name option is not always needed. It is only needed if the same reference is used more than once in the article. The first time it is used, it should be done the same as any other reference but including the name (ie. <ref name="Neuiw"> {{cite book| yada yada...}} or {{cite something else}} or [http://www.someaddress.com/thispage.html name of the reference] </ref>). After the reference is first created the process is a bit shorter. Each other use of that same references just needs to use the name. (<ref name="Neuiw" />). The slash (/) at the end of the reference link tells it to close itself immediately so a </ref> tag is not needed to close the reference.

Reference tag placement

The <references /> tag (or the {{reflist}} template which includes the <references /> tag with some formatting options) is placed under the heading ==References== and will generate the entire list of references for the article.

References cause partial page blanking

If there is some weird article blanking going on, it is likely caused by a <ref> tag not being closed properly. This causes everything from the tag to either the next </ref> tag or the end of the article to be seen as part of that reference. When that happens, just look at the preview of the article, find the last thing that shows up right and go find the <ref> tag that most likely starts right after it and fix the tag by closing it with a </ref> at the end of the actual reference. -- Creol(talk) 00:49, 21 August 2007 (UTC) Thank you, Creol. ionas ^talk _contribs 03:12, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Neighborhoods

The English Wikipedia has an article for every neighborhood in New York City, divided up by borough. The Queens page on this Wikipedia has all the neighborhoods listed and red linked. Does anyone else think individual articles should be made for each neighborhood in NYC? I know we aren't supposed to be too specific, but NYC has tons of people who don't speak english well and they might find this useful. But I don't want to start this enormous task if the pages will get deleted. From-cary (talk) 05:26, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

This mostly partains to Queens but I can’t find the Queens Talk Page. The RFK Bridge does NOT directly link Queens and the Bronx, but rather it stops in Manhattan along the way.
