José Maria Pereira Neves (born 1960) is a Cape Verdean politician. Neves is the 5th President of Cape Verde since 2021. He was elected Prime minister of Cape Verde in 2001. His predecessor was Gualberto do Rosário. Before he was Prime minister, Neves was President of the Santa Catarina Town Counsil.[2]

In October 2021, José Maria Neves, won the presidential election in the first round of October 17, according to the first results published on an official website. won 51.5% of the vote, an absolute majority necessary to be elected in the first round, according to these results relating to 97% of the polling stations.[3]
