Herrieden (German pronunciation: [he:ɐ̯ʁi:dən]; East Franconian: Herriaden) is a town in Ansbach, a district (Landkreis) in Middle Franconia. It lies along the upper Altmühl river, about 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) (6 mi) southwest of the city of Ansbach, 47 kilometres (29 miles) southwest of the city of Nürnberg, 95 kilometres (59 miles) east of Heilbronn and 144 kilometres (89 miles) northwest of Munich.

The first recorded settlement of Herrieden was a monastery called Hasenried (Latin Nazaruda) in 782.[2]
