Animals that belong to the family Canidae are canids. The family Canidae is divided into two tribes: Vulpini ("foxes"), and Canini ("dogs"). Vulpini (foxes) are "vulpines". Canini (wolves, dogs, coyotes and others) are "canines". Dogs are essentially pack animals which hunt their prey in a group. Foxes generally hunt separately.
Examples of canids are dogs, wolves, foxes, coyotes, and jackals.
