The arrondissement of Montbéliard is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Doubs département in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its capital, and subprefecture of the department, is the city of Montbéliard.

When the arrondissements of Doubs were created in 1800, Montbéliard was one of them in the Doubs department, as Saint-Hippolyte. In 1816, the subprefecture was moved from Saint-Hippolyte to Montbéliard.[2]
The arrondissement of Montbéliard is in the most northern of the arrondissements of the Doubs department; it is the smallest with an area of 1,255.7 km2 (485 sq mi).[3] It has a population of 176,670 inhabitants and a population density of 140.7 inhabitants/km².[4]
The arrondissement of Montbéliard is bordered to the north by the Haute-Saône department, to the northeast by the Territoire de Belfort department, to the east by Switzerland, to the south by the arrondissement Pontarlier and to the west by the arrondissement Besançon.
After the reorganisation of the cantons in France,[5] cantons are not subdivisions of the arrondissements so they could have communes that belong to different arrondissements.
In the arrondissement of Montbéliard, there are only two cantons where not all their "communes" are in the arrondissement: Bavans and Valdahon. The following table shows the distribution of the "communes" in the cantons and arrondissements:
