Arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville)

The arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville), or simply arrondissement of Château-Chinon, is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Nièvre département in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comtéregion. Its capital is the city of Château-Chinon (Ville).

History

When the Nièvre department was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) was part of that original department.^[2]

Geography

The arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) is bordered to the north by the arrondissement of Clamecy, to the northeast by the Côte-d'Or (Burgundy) department, to the east and south by the Saône-et-Loire (Burgundy) department and to the west by the arrondissement of Nevers.

It is the westernmost of the arrondissements of the department, with an area of 1,929.1 km² (744.8 sq mi),^[3] the second largest in area of the department. It has 25,717 inhabitants and a population density of 13.3 inhabitants/km².^[4]
